I have an old aircard from Verizon that allows me to use their wireless network. I have heard that new laptops wil have smaller
slots for a new type of wirless aircard. Is that true and how
soon with the laptops be coming out and how soon will Verizon
be offering the new style aircard

  1. well I don’t know if it will happen but I do know that normally as a technology is being phased out most laptops still have a port available for the older tech for a few years.

  2. Verizon just launched its new express aircard, the v640, which fits the new, smaller ports for laptops. It is blazing fast, works at true high speed (400-700kbs) and is backward compatible to the standard connection if you are out of the Broadband area. It is $179.99.

  3. Do You have a Verizon V-620 Air Card ? I do. Up until Mid-June, when the Local Store Opened Here in Goldsboro, North Carolina, I had Great Service. Now, it’s Dead-Slow. Many Times when I try to get on the Internet, I can’t. And when I finally do, “The Network” frequently Disconnects, or “This Page Not Avaiable” frequently appears. I did not have this Problem until the Local Store Opened. When I Complained, i was told to do a Disc Cleanup, De-Fragmentation, and Cookie Deletion on My Computer. Done. No Change. And Now, Verizon has mailed me a “Customer Agreement” which I did not Sign, that absolves them of any Responsibility for Poor to Non-Existent Service ! I Called to Opt-Out, but I only got a Computerized Automatic Answering System. Were You Mailed this “Agreement” as well ? My Laptop is a Dell Inspiron 6000, which I Purchased Dec.31,’05.The Verizon Air Card came with it, with a 1 Year Contract. The Air Card was $250. Connection Fee $35.& a Fee of $60 per Month, for 12 Months. That’s over $1,000 ! with an early Disconnect Penalty Fee ! And Consumer Reports Rates Verizon as the Best ! I’d Hate to See the Worst! I Understand that Newer Laptops will have the Air-Card Circuitry Built In.But, that Binds the Subscriber to that Company. As to the Smaller Slot, if You’re Happy with Your Air-Card Service, there is probably an Adapter available.

  4. Some laptops have WLAN bulit in, like Sony’s TX series, http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHO…
I don’t think that a new port for laptops will be created just for aircards, most aircards in the future may be USB though.

  5. yep

  6. It probably won’t work right, anyway

  7. yes there should be in a year or two
