  1. upload speed is always slower than download speed.
    downloading is when you d/l a song, a video, a picture or a document from the net. in this case you receive information FROM the net (from a server).
    uploading is e.g. when you send a mail (with/without an attachment), or even here on Yahoo! Answers when you ask or answer a question. in this case you are sending information TO the net (to a server).

  2. Other people have said it pretty well – but the 400-600 kb/s is the average download speed you’ll get with an EVDO Rev A aircard in good coverage areas. I happen to have Sprint’s wireless internet & generally get well above average download speeds & decent upload speeds.
    If you’re more familiar with the download speeds as displayed when you’re downloading a file on a DSL or cable connection, I average around 90KB/s to 150KB/s when downloading (and 15KB/s – 35 KB/s when uploading) – which is comparable to the speeds of a 1.5 Mb DSL connection.

    one thing worth noting is that the numbers you are reading are “average range”… the reality is many EVDO users see much faster speeds than “average”.
